Survivor - a photo on Flickriver

Survivor

            A view of one of the two entrances to Bluston's shop, looking in from the street.  The linking passageway on the left forms the "island" display case in the left foreground.  As can be seen, there is a remarkable amount of window frontage from which the proprietor can show off his wares.  During inclement weather, shelter from the elements was doubtlessly an inducement to linger.  As children, I'm afraid, we found island display cases an inducement to exciting games of "chase" while our mother was scrutinising the frocks.  Most of the few surviving examples of arcade fronts are said to be in seaside towns.
