Grim spartanism

            Not quite so rare as I thought.  I'd convinced myself that the dual-door LH was unique to Hants & Dorset and that there was only a small batch of them.  They were also taken into stock by Wilts & Dorset, at a time when the two companies were already under a common management, the orders being split between the two.  There were more of them than I'd thought, but Lancashire United also bought dual-doorway examples bodied by Northern Counties.  The bus in the photo had been new to Wilts & Dorset but, by this time, the companies had been united under the Hants & Dorset name.  This wasn't ECW's greatest-ever design, was it? and the later curved windscreen considerably improved the LH's appearance.  I was also never keen on the H&D practice of destination displays in lower case letters.  The photo was taken at Salisbury bus station on Saturday 23rd October 1976.
