Blackburn works car No. 2 - a photo on Flickriver

            An old photograph with no information on it other than "Blackburn" written on the reverse. Assuming the location is correct I think that this is *Blackburn Corporation Tramways (BCT) Permanent Way haulage car No. 2 towing a rail carrying trailer.

No. 2 was built in c.1914 by BCT at Intack using spare parts (some from water car No. 1 that had been broken up in 1908)  and ran on a Brill 27G equal wheel truck. I can find no other photos to compare it with and no details as to when it was withdrawn. 

The parts of the Blackburn tramways system that had not already been withdrawn or transferred to bus operation closed in Sep 1949.

* The original company running the tramways was simply 'Blackburn Corporation', this changed in 1933 to 'Blackburn Corporation Tramways and Omnibuses' and changed again in 1937 to 'Blackburn Corporation Transport'.
