NCB (ex NSR/LMS) tank loco 'Kenneth' in Walkden Yard - Dec 1961 - hand coloured version

My hand *coloured (if you want to use it please credit me and link to this description) version, of an old photograph taken in Dec 1961 (a few months after the loco was withdrawn) by G. Monks while on a 'shed bash/rail tour' visiting the National Coal Board (NCB) Walkden Yard (Greater Manchester). This photo is of NCB 0-6-2T steam tank locomotive 'Kenneth', built by the North Staffordshire Railway (NSR) in 1921, going to the London, Midland and Scottish Railway in 1923, then to the NCB in 1936.

This is in a rail enthusiast old photo album (owner's name is not known), the photo reverse is annotated with "N.C.B. 0-6-2T - Walkden Yard - 'Kenneth' - By G. Monks - 2 Dec 1961".

'Kenneth', was a 'new L class' 0-6-2T engine, built at the NSR Stoke Works and new to them in 1921 carrying No. 22. NSR became part of the LMS after grouping of the existing railway companies into 'the big four' in 1923, this loco being renumbered by LMS as 2264. In 1936 five Class L locomotives were sold by LMS to the NCB, the first to arrive was 2264 in Jul 1936, being named 'Kenneth' after Miles Kenneth Burrows who was the youngest son of the owner of the Atherton Collieries. The engine was withdrawn from service in Oct 1961 then scrapped in 1964 at the Walkden Yard.
