GWR pannier tank loco No. 8794 @ Landore, Swansea - May 1959

            An old photograph of Great Western Railway (GWR) steam locomotive No. 8794 by, what I think is, the Landore Junction signal box with the station behind the engine, taken by H. Fisher in May 1959.

This is in a transport enthusiast (H. Fisher) old photo album, next to the photo is written "0-6-0 Pannier Tank loco number 8794, class 57xx at Landore. 8/5/59". This engine was based at Landore shed from Aug 1956 to Jun 1961.

No. 8794 was a C. Collett designed 5700 class 0-6-0PT engine, built at the Swindon Works, and new to Great Western Railway (GWR) in Mar 1934. In 1948 the railways were nationalised, GWR becoming BR (Western Region). The locomotive was withdrawn from service in Jul 1963 then scrapped in the October.
