Sunrise on Ile de la Cité - a photo on Flickriver

            One early November morning, the sun was rising though a thick fog over "Ile de la Cité", in Paris. So I walked to the middle of "Pont des Arts" to get a beautiful view.

The picture needed a fair amount of enhancing, as it was quite grey and low contrast due to the fog. I added some light touches of color (the shadows in blue, the highlights in yellow), but only in a few places in the sky, keeping the original unsaturated colors in many places, and in particular in the center of the image. Then, I used the contrast equalizer: in clarity preset to increase contrast on the center of the island and the bridge, and in bloom preset to decrease contrast on the sides of the image and in the sky. Then, I used tone curves to make the center of the image lighter and the sides (particularly top and bottom) darker.

Finally, I denoised using a non-local means filter, but I made sure to give it a opacity of 60%, to let some of the original grain of the image visible.
