White Bakelite Bracelets, 1930/1940s

This is one of the two main kinds of Bakelite: cast Bakelite, also known by the brand name Catalin (it had many other brand names). Differently from the compression molded Bakelite, the cast Bakelite was a viscous resin that could be translucent or transparent and was cast as tubes, rods or slabs that had to be machined or carved into finished goods by craftsmen.
These bracelets show different designs with different degrees of craftsmanship but they all show clearly the tendency of Bakelite resins to change colors by oxidation. They were all originally opaque white. Most light or pastel Bakelite shades have turned into darker colors. Possibly made in USA.
