'August Rain' - Moraine Lake, Banff - a photo on Flickriver

            This was my very last shoot of Moraine Lake as I was on my way to move back to BC.

For anyone planning on shooting Moraine Lake I've got this advice.

Try and time your visit after some heavy rains and you'll stand a good chance of getting conditions like this.

Sure, it's nice to get the blue sky tourism shot, but there are already millions of those.

I personally prefer the more moody and dramatic skies that come from interesting weather.

My other tip for shooting Moraine Lake is to check the forecast and aim for wind that is less than 7 knots. Even 13 knots will ruin a reflection but I have managed to get nice reflections up there on days that were forecast to have 13 knots as the lake shore is quite sheltered. Anything more than 13 knots and you can forget any chance of a reflection.
