Blair's Shoulder-knot (Lithophane leautieri)

            North Antrim - November 2022. North Antrim, September 2022. Another species to look out for at the moment. This species originates from the area surrounding the Mediterranean, but has been spreading north. It was first reported from the Isle of Wight 1951 and has been spreading up through the British Isles. My first up here on the north coast was in 2019, and has been annual ever since. Until this year I had only found it in my garden, but now have had several in the wider countryside.

The larvae feeds on cypress, such as Leyland cypress (Cupressocyparis leylandii)
