IND Indian Decorated Truck, Rajasthan

Some of the most colorfully decorated Indian trucks are found in the northern state of Rajasthan. Notice that the three trucks in the photo are similarly decorated with what looks like fresh paint.

Note the Om symbol (ॐ) in the oval space above the windshields. It is a sacred spiritual symbol in Indian religions. As a syllable, it is often chanted either independently or before a spiritual recitation and during meditation in Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism.

The Om on the truck is written in a Hindi script (ॐ). Hindi is one of the two official languages of the Government of India, along with the English. It is an official language in 9 Indian states and 3 Indian union territories and an additional official language in 3 other States.

Above the Om is another symbol. In Hinduism, the right-facing symbol (卐) is called swastika, symbolizing surya ("sun"), prosperity and good luck, while the left-facing symbol (卍) is called sauwastika, symbolizing night or tantric aspects of Kali, a Hindu goddess, who is considered to be the Master of death and time. She is also said to be the Paramshakti, that is the supreme of all powers, or the ultimate reality.

Hindi and Urdu are essentially the same language. The main difference is that Urdu, an official language of Pakistan, is written with an Arabic script whereas Hindi, an official language of India, is written in the script originally used for Sanskrit, Devanagari
