Parigi, anno 1996 – Museo del Louvre, Piramide (Photoscan)

            Il Museo del Louvre a Parigi è uno dei più celebri musei del mondo e il primo per numero di visitatori: circa 8,3 milioni l'anno. L’edificio è il risultato di una serie di costruzioni successive realizzate nel corso degli ultimi 800 anni.
Il cortile centrale ospita la Piramide, attualmente l’entrata principale del museo che ricopre il mezzanino. Si tratta di una struttura di vetro e acciaio commissionata dall'ex presidente francese François Mitterrand, disegnata dall’architetto cinese Ieoh Ming Pei e inaugurata il 30 marzo 1989 con l’obiettivo di diffondere luce naturale nello spazio interrato dell'ingresso. La piramide è alta ventuno metri, inguainata in vetro riflettente: un vetro leggermente tinto, prodotto da Saint-Gobain in modo da essere compatibile con la pietra di color miele delle secolari facciate dello storico Louvre. Al tempo della costruzione aveva suscitato molto scalpore per l'audace accostamento attuato nell'antico spazio del cortile ma oggi però è universalmente riconosciuta come una vera opera d'arte e di pregevole architettura.

The Louvre Museum in Paris is one of the most famous museums in the world and the first in number of visitors: about 8.3 million per year. The building is the result of a number of successes development over the past 800 years.
The central courtyard is home to the Pyramid, now the main entrance of the museum that covers the mezzanine. It is a structure of glass and steel commissioned by former french president François Mitterrand, designed by chinese Ieoh Ming Pei and it was inaugurated March 30, 1989 with the aim to spread natural light entering the space underground. The pyramid is twenty meters high, sheathed in reflective glass: a slightly stained glass, manufactured by Saint-Gobain in order to be compatible with the honey-colored stone of the historic facades of the old Louvre. At the time of construction it had caused a sensation for daring approach implemented in the old space yard but today, however, is universally recognized as a true work of art and fine architecture.
