Sanremo (Imperia) - Cattedrale di San Siro

            La chiesa romanico-gotica di San Siro a Sanremo è sorta sui resti di una precedente chiesa paleocristiana. L’odierna struttura fu edificata all’inizio del secolo XII ad opera dei Maestri Comancini e trasformata dal 1619 al 1668. 
La prima chiesa risale però all'anno 811 secondo la tradizione nel luogo in cui il vescovo Siro, divenuto divenuto santo, abitualmente celebrava i riti religiosi. Nel medesimo sito avrebbe, per un breve periodo, trovato sepoltura san Romolo di Genova. Le prime notizie storiche che ne attestano l'esistenza sono atti del 1143 del consiglio del Comune.
La struttura attuale è a forma di parallelogramma con tre navate, doppio ordine di colonne e archi a sesto acuto. All'interno, sull'altare maggiore, un prezioso crocifisso ligneo opera di Maragliano.

The romanesque-gothic church of San Siro in Sanremo was built on the remnants of an early christian church. The current structure was built in the twelfth century by the Masters Comancini and it was transformed from 1619 to 1668. 
The first church dates from the year 811 according to the tradition where Siro bishop, than become saint, usually celebrated religious rites. In the same site was buried St. Romulus of Genoa for a short period. The first historical acts attesting the existence are date 1143 by the City Council.
The current structure is shaped like a parallelogram with three aisles, two rows of columns and arches. Inside, on the main altar, there is a precious wooden crucifix by the sculptor Maragliano.
