Tramonto sul monte Pelmo (Cadore) - a photo on Flickriver

            E’ parte del gruppo delle Dolomiti bellunesi, situato all’inizio della Val Fiorentina e raggiunge i 3.168 metri di altezza. 
E’ una montagna molto peculiare perché si articola in due cime principali: il Pelmo vero e proprio, a nord, e il Pelmetto (2.990 metri) a sud. Rappresenta uno dei più belli e caratteristici rilievi delle Dolomiti, la cui forma concava ricorda quella di un gigantesco trono (infatti è anche chiamato in dialetto il “Caregon del creator”) e rappresente una delle icone più conosciute dei monti bellunesi.
Il monte Pelmo è noto anche dal punto di vista paleontologico perchè sotto del Pelmetto, a circa duemila metri di quota presso il rifugio Staulanza, è stato rinvenuto un masso con impronte di dinosauri.
Per il giro completo della base del monte Pelmo, passando dal rifugio Venezia, occorrono circa 6 - 8 ore.

Mount Pelmo, the throne of Cadore
The mountain is part of the group of Belluno Dolomites at the start of Fiorentina Valley and reaches 3,168 meters above sea level.
It 's very peculiar because the mountain has two main peaks: the proper Pelmo, to the north, and the Pelmetto (2,990 meters) to the south. Is one of the most beautiful and characteristic high ground of the Dolomites, whose concave shape resembles a giant throne (it is also called "Caregon the creator" in dialect), one of the most famous icons of the mountains of Belluno district.
Mount Pelmo is also known from the paleontological point of view because under the Pelmetto, about two thousand meters above sea level, near the Staulanza refuge, there is a rock with dinosaur footprints.
For a complete tour of the base of Mount Pelmo, passing from Venice refuge, it takes about 6 - 8 hours.
