Milano - Campanile della chiesa di San Gottardo in Corte

            Fu fatta edificare come cappella ducale da Azzone Visconti nel 1330 accanto ai palazzi del potere signorile e vescovile.
L'architetto che la progettò fu Francesco Pecorari da Cremona e fu terminata nel 1336. Ha conservato tuttora il suo assetto originario la splendida, slanciata torre campanaria di pianta ottagonale che Azzone dotò anche di uno dei primi orologi pubblici di Milano. E’ caratterizzata da un fitto partito decorativo e da netti accostamenti di materiali e colori, in particolare il cotto, utilizzato nelle cornici ad archetti acuti intrecciati che segnano i piani bassi del campanile. Questi elementi, che si richiamano alla tradizione del gotico lombardo, presentano specifici riferimenti all'architettura cremonese e cistercense.

The church was built as a ducal chapel by Azzone Visconti in 1330 near to the corridors of power and bishop buildings.
The architect who designed it was Francesco Pecorari from Cremona and was finished in 1336. It has retained the original layout the beautiful, slender octagonal bell tower that Azzone also endowed one of the first public clocks in Milan.  It is characterized by a thick decorative party and net combinations of materials and colors, especially the brick, used in arched frames intertwined that mark the lower floors of the tower. These elements, which refer to the tradition of Lombard Gothic, have specific references with Cremona and Cistercian architecture.
