Leidolf Lordomat C35 (1956 -)

            Leidolf is, or rather was, the other camera maker from Wetzlar. The Lordomat C35 was developed from the Lordomat by addition of a non-coupled light meter. The meter has a selenium cell and therefore does not need batteries. Mine miraculously still works. 

They did not manufacture their own lenses, but had them made by the Enna company in Munich. The Lordonar appears to be a Tessar. 

I got mine from ebay. The seller had it from a house clearance. There still is a film inside. I don't know how long it's been there, but I will shoot it to the end of the roll and then have it developed. If it's dud, too bad. The camera was sold as "defective", because the seller didn't know anything about cameras and probably didn't know how to make it go click. 

Before receiving it I thought it was about in the same class as the Braun Paxette, but now that I have it and can see and feel the build quality, I rank it significantly higher. About on the same level as a Contaflex III. Not yet in the realm of Leica and Contax. 

Technically, it lags somewhat behind the Leica M3 and it has some design quirks. It has a double stroke film advance that, unusually, rotates clockwise, it does not have a self-timer nor does it have a frame in the viewfinder for 50 mm focal length The entire frame corresponds to the FOV of 35 mm focal length and there are added frames for 90 and 135 mm, but you have to guess the frame for 50 mm. That is a bit inconvenient. 

There is a second peephole for the ranging, so you have to peer through that while focusing and then switch to the viewfinder window for composing. That is akin to the Leica II and III, though here the two peepholes are not directly next to each other. 

There is a manual parallax correction, You focus, read off the range and then set a dial in front of the viewfinder. That means you will have to be moving the camera away from your face and back again to your eye several times. It's not a camera for fast action. 

The camera has a leaf shutter with settings between 1 and 300, plus B. There is the usual M-X-V flash synchronisation. 

The shutter release button is on the side of the lens mount, Probably the seller didn't find it there and instead pressed on some of the dials on the top deck which didn't lead to anything. 

Mine is in very good shape. No dings, bumps or scratches except for a slightly bent filter ring on the lens. The case also looks good. Clearly, the previous owner took good care of it.
