Drumheller Badlands 2024

            Our first stop on an Offbeat Photography photo course was Horseshoe Canyon in the Drumheller Badlands of Alberta Canada. We had to wait for a the right light, but the wait was worthwhile.

I had done some of my thesis work in the 1990s on erosion of dispersive clay fills and Drumheller was a useful starting point to understanding this type of erosion which can be very rapid and often leads to tunnel erosion. 

I've been back to these (and other) badlands since, most recently at Death Valley. It was good to immerse myself in the landscape for a few days.
