A Flamboyance of Flamingoes - a photo on Flickriver

             A "flamboyance of flamingos" -- and yes, that is the collective noun for these beautiful and exotic pink birds.  Both 'flamingo' and 'flamboyance' come from words referring to fire. Flamingo comes from the Spanish and Portuguese 'flamengo', literally, “flame-colored.” Flamboyance comes from French, meaning "to flame" or "flair." 

This flamboyance of Chilean flamingos (Phoenicopterus chilensis) was seen and photographed at the San Francisco Zoo.
