Stranger #254 - Montana - a photo on Flickriver

My wife and I were lucky enough to meet up with fellow photographer, Sylvia Cavanagh, who was visiting Sydney during the Easter break. As we waited for Sylvia’s train to arrive at Newtown station I noticed a tall blonde with a funky 60’s style paisley patterned top that caught my eye.

Montana was more than happy to be photographed for the project. We tried a few different backgrounds and angles and Montana made it easy to get the portrait I envisaged. This was mainly because she had done some modelling work In the past, but was told that she was “difficult” because she refused to dye her hair brown.

Originally from the far north-eastern New South Wales country town of Murwillumbah, she has been living in Sydney for the last 5 years while she studied art at University. She is an emerging artist and the creator of the label, Wedding For One, where she designs and makes handmade vintage garments. Recently her art has been exhibited at the Sydney M2 Gallery with very positive results.

I asked if she had any plans of heading back home and she said that she couldn’t wait to get out of the city as she is a country girl deep down. Montana was a pleasure to talk to and a very down to earth, unique individual with her very own personal style.
