            Posting this to show the performance of the new Canon 1.4x iii extender - I was surprised to see it produced such a sharp result.  Maintaining sharpness will require effort because with the extender mounted autofocus is not possible, so no choice but manual focus.  Much more difficult than the fast, accurate auto-focus we've all become used to.

For those interested it was taken handheld at a range of 15 metres and at an effective focal length of approx 900 mm (i.e. 400mm x 1.4 x 1.6 [the crop factor of the 7D]).
