Christmas at the Army Museum in Delft

For 2 days in December we tried to show visitors in the Army museum in Delft wat Christmas could have been like during the Second World War.
We decorated the tree with 'Snow flakes' made from 1940s reproduction newspapers, with Christmas cards and dried apple on string.
We taught children how to make the decorations and let them take these home.
We also showed them the presents under the tree, these didn't compare to the luxurious gifts they get these days, but we made them think by explaining how much effort it took to find or make the presents and that they were often a lot more valuable then some expensive gadget bought today.
The gifts also taught the visitors about the wartime shortages.
Visitors were invited to try the treats we made, Slemp, dried apple and apple peel tea.
Our actress, in authentic 1940s clothing (not pictured as she took the photo) showed people the kinds of clothing and haistyle fashionable and told them about her daily life and how the war had an impact on the celebrations this winter.
