Praha: Palais Lobkowitz Gardens - a photo on Flickriver

            The Lobkowitz Palace in Prague is the seat of the German embassy. The gardens became well-known in the Summer of 1989 as thousands of citizens from the GDR fled to the grounds of the embassy. Living conditions for so many in this small place were horrible. On September 30th 1989 it was announced by German foreign minister Hans-Dietrich Genscher they could travel to West Germany. It was one of the first breaches in the iron curtain. leading to the fall of the Berlin Wall in November 1989.
