Alnus trabeculosa Hand.-Mazz. 1922 (BETULACEAE).

            Sinónimos: Alnus jackii Hu; Alnus nagurae Inokuna.
Arboles caducifolios de hasta 10 m de alto. Corteza gris o pardo grisácea, lisa, ramas pardo grisáceo oscuras, glabras. Yemas estipitadas, con 2 escamas aquilladas y glabras. Hojas de obovado oblongas a oblongas, de 6-16 cm de largo x 2,5-7 cm de ancho, envés con glándulas resinosas, haz glabro, base subredondeada, subcordad o anchamente cuneada, margen finamente serrado, ápice de agudo a caudado. Inflorescencias femeninas agrupadas por 2-4 en un racimo de 1-2,5 cm de largo. Fruto en nuez anchamente ovada, de 3-4 mm de largo x 2-2,5 mm de ancho, con alas papiráceas de alrededor de 1/4 de la longitud de la nuez. Especie nativa de Japón y del este de China. En Iturraran se encuentra en la zona 5.

Deciduous trees up to 10 m tall. Grey or greyish-brown bark, smooth, dark greyish-brown glabrous barks. Stalked buds, with 2 glabrous and hull-shaped scales. 6-16 cm long x 2,5-7 cm wide oblong-obovate to oblong leaves, their lower sides with resinous glands, and their upper sides are glabrous, with a subrounded, subcordate or widely cuneate base, finely serrate margins, sharp to caudate tips. Feminine flower inflorescences grouped in twos and fours in 1-2,5 cm long racemes. Widely egg-shaped 3-4 mm long x 2-2,5 mm wide fruit, with papiraceous wings 1/4 the length of the nut. This species comes from Japan and eastern China. In Iturraran it is to be found in area no. 5.
