19/52/2024 The Lighthouse Keeper's Dog

            I moved to Maine from California in 1980 to volunteer at a whale research station. The research station in Lubec, Maine was just across the international bridge to Campobello Island in New Brunswick, Canada. If you look to the left side side of the far island you will just see the top of a lighthouse. This is Head Harbour lighthouse, or East Quoddy lighthouse. We would watch whales for the research station from tis lighthouse.  The Bay of Fundy has some of the highest tides in the world and this lighthouse is only accessible by foot for 4 hours between high and low tides. To reach the lighthouse you have to go down a ladder, cross a gravel bar, up another ladder, across a bridge over a ravine, down another ladder and across another gravel bar. The other option to reach the lighthouse would of course be by boat.
1981 a new head lightkeeper arrived at the lighthouse..... I married that lighthouse keeper in 1983 on Prince Edward Island where he had moved to another lighthouse. We moved back to Maine in 1984.
   Even though Peter is no longer a lighthouse keeper, Moby is a lighthouse keeper's dog.
