            Santa Maria della Salute (English: Saint Mary of Health), commonly known simply as the Salute, is a Roman Catholic church and minor basilica located in the Dorsoduro sestiere of the Italian city of Venice. It stands on a narrow finger of land between the Grand Canal and the Bacino di San Marco making the church visible when entering the Piazza San Marco from the water. The Salute is part of the parish of the Gesuati and is the most recent of the so-called plague-churches.
In 1630, Venice experienced an unusually devastating outbreak of the plague. As a votive offering for the city's deliverance from the pestilence, the Republic of Venice vowed to build and dedicate a church to Our Lady of Health (or of Deliverance, Italian: Salute). The church was designed in the then fashionable baroque style by Baldassare Longhena, who studied under the architect Vincenzo Scamozzi. Construction began in 1631. Most of the objects of art housed in the church bear references to the Black Death.
The dome of the Salute was an important addition to the Venice skyline and soon became emblematic of the city, inspiring artists like Canaletto, J. M. W. Turner, John Singer Sargent and Francesco Guardi.

La sacristie renferme de nombreux tableaux, dont les célèbres "Noces de Cana" du Tintoret.
Sa construction fut décidée par le Sénat de Venise en 1630, alors qu'une épidémie de peste commencée dans l'été 1630 décimait près d'un tiers de la population en deux ans. La construction commença en 1631 et le monument fut inauguré en 1681. Cependant, la construction ne s'acheva qu'en 1687, 5 ans après la mort de l'architecte, Baldassare Longhena. Il y aura consacré 50 années de sa vie. Il s'agit en effet de la construction de Venise reposant sur le plus de pilotis avec 1 156 6271.
Bien que cette basilique n'ait pas d'importance culturelle particulière, elle est célèbre, et souvent représentée sur les peintures et photographies de Venise en raison de son emplacement et de son apparence extérieure distinctive. L'architecte Longhena a conçu la basilique de forme octogonale pour évoquer une couronne dédiée à la Vierge. L'originalité de son architecture, réside dans les orecchioni ("grandes oreilles" en italien), volutes en spirale coiffées de statues qui assurent la transition entre le dôme et les façades.
Sous la basilique se trouverait près d'un million de pieux en bois pour soutenir sa structure colossale.
