Remains of Lockheed P2V-7 / SP-2H Tanker 55

Nose landing gear in its retracted position - it was extended and functional during the aircraft's last landing.

This aircraft was originally manufactured with Lockheed MSN 726-7229 and procured by the U.S. Navy as P2V-7S 148344. It was operated as fire-fighting Tanker 55 for many years, registered as N355MA.

On June 3, 2012, the crew of Tanker 55 was unable to extend its left main landing gear. After multiple, unsuccessful attempts to extend the left main landing gear, the crew landed at Minden-Tahoe Airport (MEV / KMEV) with the right main landing gear and nose landing gear extended. The crew was not injured, but the aircraft was damaged beyond economical repair. A complete synopsis of the accident is here:
