The circle of large leaves pressed against the ground make this plant easy to recognize. From the middle of these leaves, after two years, a long stalk emerges, at the extremity of which a good number of yellow flowers are attached. These have been used traditionally  against coughs and bronchial colds. One kind of freshwater poaching consists of throwing branches of the plant into the water in order to stun the fish and thus catch them easily.

Description: A biannual herbaceous plant, 50-150 cm high, covered by a yellowish-grey down.Rosette of lobate basal leaves with undulate lobes, caulinar leaves with heart shaped base, sessile and more or less recurved. Flowers 2-3 cm across clustered in a few dense panicles, corolla formed by five yellow petals, radially disposed with its base spotted red, five stamens with violet filament. The fruit is a globular capsual.
