Snowy sunday walking to Parc Monceau, Paris

            The couple are walking south towards the Rotunda of the Parc Monceau - one of few remains of the mur des Fermiers généraux (wall of the farmers-general) a tax barrier built at the boundaries of Paris just before the revolution (1784 to 1790).  Haussmann tore the wall down in 1860.

Any Sunday morning is quiet in Paris, but the this day's early blanket of snow made it especially so - the couple walking down the middle of the road was in no risk of being run over.  The Velib bicycles (lower left) weren't in great demand that day, either.

The street is the Rue de Phalsbourg, built in 1874 and named after an Alsatian town lost to France in the disastrous Franco-Prussian war.   The street is in the 17th arrondissement, the Rotunda and the Park in the 8th.
