Early Leather and Paper 6th Plate Case.

Floral patterns were very popular in the mid to late 1840's and many engravers and manufacturers were producing them. This pattern could not be identified. However as you will see the studio that took the picture impressed their name and address on the inner mat. A registry of daguerreotypists of the time tells us that John A. Keenan was only at this particular address between 1849-50 dating the image. It can be seen here:
