Colonialist/militarist statues at Belfast City Hall

The left hand photo here is a memorial to prominent British colonial servant Frederick Temple, Marquess of Dufferin and Ava, who died in 1902. The figures either side represent his role in India (the side seen here) and Canada. Whether it can also be considered racist, by modern standards, is another question.

The right hand photo is a Boer War Memorial. Although it can be argued that this is a memorial to the British soldiers who served and died in that war (1899-1902) it is still a militarist and colonial memorial to a war in which the British perfected the tactic of using internment/concentration camps.

The large and pleasantly simple memorial garden (well, space, as horticulturally speaking it is hardly a garden) at the City Hall to the 1914-18 and 1939-45 World Wars is much less military and more classical with a plinth and pillars.
