            AURORAS
… are everywhere on the Internet today, thanks to extraordinary solar activity over the last days. Though our chance to see the fireworks looked grim, thankfully the clouds disappeared shortly before the show began.

And it started just when I went out to check a little over half an hour past midnight. For the first minute there was nothing but pale stars, but as I turned to go back inside I caught the first faint streamers of green light creeping from zenith towards the horizon. And then the floodgates opened.

Where we live there's considerable light pollution, which steals away much of the auroras' brightness and brilliance, but nevertheless we had a great time for the hour or so that it lasted, and I got a good handful of long exposures with the wide angle lens that I bought recently.
