Seeing the Y-wing return on screen last year, first to Rebels and then in Rogue one, renewed my interest in the craft enough to start building my own version.

I believe around that time dmaclego posted his version so that was no doubt a big motivator for me too. Since then I've been working on it on and off, becoming distracted by other builds and forever spending hours on greebling only to end up with a minuscule change of only a few parts. Ultimately that process became more and more tedious so I decided it was time to take some photos and just set it aside. Well, for now at least ;)

Probably goes without saying but Brickwright's fantastic Y-wing had a major influence on the design of this build. I used a modified version of his engine and cockpit design and I have to say I didn't need to change too much. The engines are broadly the same only with grill tiles in place of the dark grey slopes and landing gear incorporated into the underside. The cockpit is more heavily altered, mainly to reduce the number of exposed studs and to include an interior that's a little more roomy. Even so I really recommend you check out Brickwright's original design if you haven't seen it yet, he's even gone to the trouble of making instructions which are definitely worth a look too!
