            A pié della mia croce , in cimitero,
vo' che ci nasca l'Edera amorosa ,
non la viola del pensiero,
non il candido giglio,nè la rosa ,
ché l'affetto dei fiori è passeggero .
Ma l'Edera s'attacca , ove si posa .

Cresce , e co ' rami suoi cinge e s 'attiene 
a quel che la protegge e la sostiene 
e seco ognor soavemente unita ,
vive con lui della sua stessa vita ,
Amando vive l'Edera gentile ,
e a farsi bella non aspetta aprile .

M'e cara sempre l'Edera modesta 
che alle offese del gel resiste e dura ,
o di un albero antico il tronco vesta 
giovane e fresca con la sua verzura ,
stenda i suoi tralci , o li declini mesta 
sulle rovine delle parie mura .

Per tutto dove l'edera si spande 
porta la grazia delle sue ghirlande ,
ora leggiadro simbolo d'affetto,
orna e rallegra il povero mio tetto 
forse, tra poco , veraconda e pia 
consolerà la sepoltura mia
