Hippeastrum hybridum 'Apple Blossom'

            Esta tarde termino de abrir mi Hippeastrum de matices rosados, es mi preferida entre las de este género.  Es una  planta bulbosa herbácea y perenne que presenta órganos subterráneos de reserva de nutrientes, tales como bulbos, cormos, rizomas, tubérculos y raíces tuberosas .Durante el verano pierde todas sus hojas y el bulbo brota en primavera al año siguiente.   Pertenece a la familia de las amarilidáceas  , su nombre que deriva del griego y significa "estrella del caballero", fue elegido en 1821 para describir a la primera especie del género, Hippeastrum reginae originaria de África como el Amarilis belladonna. El nuevo mundo aportó a la botánica  la  azucena listada o Hippeastrum vittatum  y así se denominó en los libros de botánica,
 No  obstante el esfuerzo  de los taxónomos para  distinguir ambos géneros, la mayoría de los aficionados a las plantas ornamentales continúan denominando amarilis tanto a las plantas del Viejo como a las del Nuevo Mundo.
