Sweethope Hill's Jack and Jill. Sweethope, Scotland.

            These two trees ( a whitebeam and an ash) that grace the summit of “Sweethope Hill” in the Scottish Border’s are known locally as “Jack and Jill” and are the supposed remnants of a small wood which once covered the whole of the hill top. Part of the hill is also a scheduled ancient monument being the site of a prehistoric hill fort and settlement the remains of the surrounding wall can still be seen clearly here in the photo. The fort was probably built and occupied in the first millennium BC, while the settlement belongs to the later prehistoric period. This was a great walk and the effort to get to the top of “Sweethope Hill” was well worth the view and the visit.
