Upottery Airfield - a photo on Flickriver

Upottery Airfield

            This is taken from a lay-by on the road around the airfield, which would have been the old perimeter track.  It shows the view up the main runway.  This time 64 years ago elements of the 506th PIR would be waiting in their marshaling areas to the side of the runways getting ready to take off for D-Day.  Imagine many C-47's lined up here too, with their invasion paint on the wings and fuselage.
