Beech Behemoth - a photo on Flickriver

Beech Behemoth

            An old-growth beech tree, approximately 3 feet (~1m) in diameter looms in a northern hardwood forest of aspen, sugar maple, birch and beech, lit by soft fall light. If you look in the lower right corner with enlarged view, you can see that "Fred" once thought it was a good idea to take advantage of the smooth bark to tell the world he was there. Taken in the Lake Huron Coastal Preserve, Alabaster Township, Michigan.  The LHCP was recently acquired by AT to preserve an old-growth forest with undeveloped Lake Huron frontage. HDR +/-1 stop.
