Climb a Mountain

            In 1989 I briefly borrowed a video camera (a huge machine using a VHS tape) and recorded a glimpse of the life happening around me on the Aboriginal community where I was living. This was only the second time that I'd done this. My only means of editing was to use the video camera and my personal VHS player, finding the segments I wanted to keep and copying them over to another tape. This is know as crash editing and is a rather imprecise method. So between the choppy edit breaks and the tape deterioration I'm sorry to say the quality of this footage isn't the best.

Still for me, this recording, and another earlier one, are important records of a life now long gone (at least for me). For the children of these communities I image some these activities still occasionally go on. Yet even for them, there have been enormous changes in lifestyles. These days they probably spend more time throwing digital images on a screen than they do rocks down a hill.

I'm not sure why I used this song except it was a favourite at the time and for the reference to climbing.
