Wave-surge Pool and River - a photo on Flickriver

What do we call these? Sort of like a tidal pool, but in this case caused by waves surging on to the beach due to strong winds for a few days. And what you see is the temporary stream created as the water returns to the lake. Just after I took this, all of a sudden I felt my feet getting wet -- I looked down and I'm standing in 6" of water! (Another surge!) See next two photos for more of what was going on there.

This was taken at the Elberta beach near the south breakwater on Lake Michigan. You can see the cars parked at the Elberta Lookout in the background. Taken on "Windy Wednesday," 10-27-2010. There were very strong and steady winds that day, with gusts over 60 mph! No blowing sand -- but only AFTER I got down to the water's edge.

Here's a short video I took while there. Not great but you can get a feel for what is was like, such as being hard to stand still with the steady 30-40 mph winds, with even bigger gusts.
