Clare, Michigan Welcome Center Lighthouse

The Great Lakes State of Michigan has the longest freshwater shoreline and the longest coastline of any state except Alaska. It also has more lighthouses than any other state in the nation, with 115 lights along the shores of Lakes Huron, Michigan, Superior, and Erie.

But did you know Michigan has (at least) one lighthouse that’s not on any shore...? If you’re driving on the merged US 10/127 north of Clare (mile marker 160) you’ll go by the this faux light at the MDOT Clare Welcome Center 634. (And this is a twin to the faux light that was once located in the Michigan Welcome Center near Monroe, Michigan, but is now at the former Chief Wawatam ferry dock in St. Ignace.)

But why is it in THIS location? Perhaps someone knows. It is somewhat close to the center of the Michigan Lower Peninsula. As OnceJAKphoto suggests below, do "they" know something we don't? Is this the highest point in the state and and we should ALL get our boats ready...?!
