My 1978 Vintage Crayola Markers and friends

            Not a food history post… this time it’s personal nostalgia achievement!

@Crayola Markers first came to market way back in 1978 and I was there. I remember them arriving out of nowhere in grade school and seeming like the fanciest, funnest marker I’d ever seen.

With a tip that allowed for both thick AND thin line work, they were also a grade school power play like I’d never seen.

The original white graphic box with ascending split window revealing the solid cylinders inside left an indelible mark on my brain and I’d long wanted to own one but years of searches came up empty.

So I’ve been on the hunt for those early Crayola Markers a very long time - but now I have the original 1978 “NEW” package and a 1979 iteration as well! So happy!

The lower left is the more standard look that would follow in the 1980s as well as a package of “multicultural” Crayola markers from 1993!

In the center is a 1978 trade ad directed at retail buyers and wholesalers introducing them.

This is probably where my Crayola Markers collection ends. But you never know! 😄
