Golden Gate Surf - a photo on Flickriver

Golden Gate Surf

            Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco, CA. 

If you are up for some serious stair climbing/descending, this is a wonderful beach with a unique view of the Golden Gate bridge. Unfortunately the long, steep descent to the beach is only the first obstacle. To reach this area you must climb over a large cluster of slippery rocks on the beach, with the surf pounding down in front of you. Some tidal periods of course are much safer than others. I definitely recommend checking your tide tables before visiting this beach. In this particular region, the beach descends very rapidly into the powerful surf, which creates very violent wave action and a booming crashing sound upon wave impact. As is often the case, I am setup in the surf for this shot, but this time I am facing away from the oncoming waves. All of these factors combined explain why you don't see many people at this beach. But if you are able to make it the view is definitely rewarding!
