Hilbre Island - a photo on Flickriver

Hilbre Island

            Hilbre Island, seen to the right, is the largest of a group of three islands at the mouth of the estuary of the River Dee, the border between England and Wales at this point. The Welsh coast is to the left of the shot. Middle Eye is it's closest neighbour and Little Eye is seen situated between the two figures on the sands. 

This is our trek back after our 6 hours or so at Hilbre, cut off by the high tide - 9.80 metres and a wonderful experience had by all.  The abundance of wildlife is just brilliant! 

The safest route (and recommended route) is to walk towards Little Eye and then turn right. Hilbre Island does have a few buildings, the others are unoccupied.
