Cliff Swallows mining mud (Explored)

            Cliff Swallows collect mud for nests that cling beneath overhanging cliffs or beneath bridges. They nest colonially, with colonies ranging from a few nests to many hundreds. I could not discern how many were coming, but they would bank in, land in the mud and then fill their beaks while they beat their wings frantically above their bodies. It took them only about 20 seconds to scoop the mud and then they were off, but more would immediately land--the mud mining was nearly continuous.
