collared lizard bipedal - a photo on Flickriver

            I was driving along a sandy road when a collared lizard (Crotaphytus collaris) ran across the road, bipedally. That is, he ran on his back feet, balancing with his tail. Delighted with his balance and speed, I abandoned the 4Runner and went after him. I had apparently trespassed in his territory, and he intended to intimidate me until I left. Here, he stands upright, perhaps showing me how big he was.
