The Watchman - a photo on Flickriver

The Watchman

            Zion National Park's "Watchman" from the bridge at Canyon Junction.

There was some crazy weather happening - this shot was taken mid-morning during one of the few brief breaks in the cloud-cover. The image was made using a stack of filters - a warming polarizer to bring some contrast to the sky and warm the partially shaded foreground and cut the reflection, a 6-stop neutral density filter to soften the water in the Virgin River and an additional split neutral density filter to bring some detail back into the cloud cover of the sky and lighten the foreground.
