Gary Nixon's Triumph Thruxton 900 Road Racing Motorcycles

            Taken at Mid Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio during the AMA's Vintage Motorcycle Days weekend.  

Back in the film days, I followed and shot motorcycle racing.  During that time, I had the privilege of seeing Gary Nixon earn and defend his AMA Grand National Championships while being the lone Triumph factory rider competing against the "Harley Wrecking Crew" factory team.  He was a quite an accomplished racer and mechanic who excelled in all forms of racing that made up the championship circuit.  I even had one of my shots of him competing against Bart Markel published in Cycle World magazine.  This race took was not on the pro circuit and Gary was mostly retired, but he and his bikes were well prepared and he represented himself admirably.  It was the last time I saw him, but we corresponded a little shortly before his death from a heart attack in 2011 at the age of 70.
