Holland Gardens - a photo on Flickriver

Holland Gardens

            Another early morning exploratory cycle ride and another little gem discovered. This is Holland Gardens, off Pepys Road in Wimbledon. Its semi-formal gardens and expanse of lawn provide the promise of lazy Sunday afternoon with a picnic in a secluded and oft-overlooked corner of the village. 

The land was presented to the people of Wimbledon by Lady Holland for their enjoyment and used and named in memory of her husband, Sir Arthur Holland, who served in the borough as a Justice of the Peace.

The Hollands once lived at Holmhurst, not far from these gardens. The gardens are now maintained by  Merton Council.
