RF-8G Crusader 146865 of VFP-63 Det-3 NL-611

            This bicentennially marked photo Crusader from the Eyes of the Fleet of VFP-63 Det-3 was photographed on a late afternoon at its home base, NAS Miramar, in June 1976. 

At that time, this squadron detachment was a member of Carrier Air Wing 15 (CVW-15) which was assigned to the USS Coral Sea (CV-43).

VFP-63 was disestablished on 30 June 1982 which concluded F-8 operations with the USN. The type continued to serve in USNR service until finally being retired by VFP-206 on 29 March 1987.
