2017-11-18 0856 CRR 800 on P901-18, Perkins Tunnel, MP 18, Clinchco, VA

            On Saturday Nov 18, 2017 CSX ran the annual Santa Train from Shelby, KY to Kingsport, TN on the former Clinchfield Railroad, a tradition that spans 75 years. To honor the railroad that started it all an immaculately restored Clinchfield #800 led the train through the small towns of Appalachia bringing smiles to children of all ages. Country singer Ricky Skaggs helped Santa distribute gifts along the route. 

CRR 800 is a former Clinchfield Railroad F3 ungraded to F7 standards. Second in consist is a Seaboard System SD45 (2024) temporarily dressed up in the solid black Clinchfield scheme and renumbered 3632. The two trailing units are CSX F40s (9992/9999).

Here the train is exiting Perkins Tunnel south of Clinchco, VA.
