DSCN4088 marbled design - a photo on Flickriver

            Melanargia Galathea, the Marbled White near the Sierakow-Piaski Pinewoods (one of the browns family in the subfamily Satyrinae; Polowiec szachownica in Polish). Medium-sized butterflies are seen in forest clearings and edges, meadows and steppe. This species can be found across most of Europe, southern Russia, Asia Minor, and Iran. The males and the females are quite similar, except for the yellowish distinguishing marks on the underside of the wings that some females may have.
